How a Designer Can Assist in Your Home Search

I don’t know about your city, but here in Nashville, we’re blowing up with new people arriving daily. Like, woah!

It’s making house hunting more difficult than ever and with outrageously high price points more people are saying yes to houses that are far from their dream home. Unfortunately not everyone loves a less than ideal looking home like I do. (Seriously, the uglier the better IMO because then I have no guilt creating exactly what I want.) That’s why working with an interior designer while on your house hunt can be so beneficial.

Let’s chat about why pulling a designer in early can be such a long term win for you, your budget, and your dream home.

1. Vision

A designer can help you see beyond the existing style of the home and visualize what could be. With knowledge of space planning and aesthetics, a designer can help you determine what changes that would make your potential home not only more beautiful, but also more functional.

What you might see as an immediate no, a designer will likely see as a fun puzzle waiting to be solved. Plus, many designers (like me) have tools such as 3D renderings to help you visualize what could be.

2. Savings

Yes, you are paying for design services, but working with an interior designer can still save you money. By pulling a designer in early, you’ll avoid purchasing items that ultimately aren’t suitable for your space. You’ll also save on costly mistakes by having an expert guide you through finish selections, paint colors, and furnishings. And most importantly, you’ll have help in making choices that ultimately increases the value of your new home.

3. Sanity

Look, making big decisions about your home can be stressful. Decision fatigue is real. Add in a couple that doesn’t necessarily see eye to eye on design, and the whole thing can become an overwhelming mess. Pulling in an interior designer early can help alleviate unnecessary stress in a few ways.

First, a designer will provide already narrowed down, expertly curated design suggestions. No more late nights pinning nonstop and making no real decisions. Second, a designer is a wonderful mediator and can help create a space two people love even if their design styles vary dramatically. A designer will also help you make educated decisions on where to spend and where to save throughout your project. No more second guessing where you should invest your budget.

And finally, a designer will keep you organized and on track throughout your renovation project and help with communication between you and your contractor. Doesn’t that sound lovely?
